Medical Student Perspective
Beyond the Ballet Barre: The Art of Medicine
The parallels between ballet and medicine are likely indiscernible to most. How can a performing art compare with science? We are taught they are dictated by separate sides of the brain: right versus left. While I spent over 15 years perfecting my ballet technique in the studio, I was developing my approach for another art: the art of medicine.
ACP IMpact's Medical Student Perspective series presents essays by medical students about their medical school experience. See possible topic ideas and how you can submit your essay for consideration at ACP Online.
Advocacy Update
ACP Rallies for Legislation That Will Improve Access to Care and Strengthen Physician Workforce
As summer nears, the 鶹ֱapp is pushing for lawmakers to pass several important bills that will make a big difference in the lives of patients and clinicians. One bill affecting trainees would allow borrowers in medical or dental internships to defer student loan payments (without accruing interest) until the completion of their program. Another, related bill, would increase the number of Medicare-supported medical education positions by 14,000 over seven years.
The ACP Advocate is a bi-weekly e-newsletter that provides ACP members with news about public policy issues affecting internal medicine and patient care.

Student-Driven Mindfulness, Meditation & Yoga Workshops: A Curricular Project-Based Strategy to Improve Medical Student Wellness
Medical students have higher perceived stress than other age-controlled students, and are subsequently at a higher risk of experiencing burnout as healthcare workers in the future. Mindfulness, meditation, and yoga-based interventions have been shown to decrease anxiety, improve mood, self-efficacy, and empathy in health professions students, and can improve brain areas related to focus.

Subspecialty and Combined Training Careers
Oncology
Medical oncology is the internal medicine subspecialty which involves the diagnosis and management of benign and malignant neoplasms. Internal medicine physicians practicing oncology (“oncologists”) typically assist general internal medicine physicians and other physicians in identifying individuals at risk for malignancy and investigating clinical symptoms and syndromes suggestive of underlying cancer.
See what makes internal medicine unique and all the career pathways open to internal medicine physicians. Be sure to also explore a day in the life of an IM specialist/subspecialist.
Periprocedural Anticoagulation
Management of patients taking anticoagulants around the time of procedures is a common and complex clinical scenario. Providing evidence-based care requires estimation of risk for thrombosis and bleeding, knowledge of commonly used medications, multidisciplinary communication and collaboration, and patient engagement and education.

Reviewing Clinical Cases with Ethical Issues
