This hands-on 2-day course is designed to teach core POCUS skills to internal medicine physicians, centering on the needed skills to use ultrasound as a patient assessment tool in a variety of settings.
If you are interested in the potential for POCUS to expand your clinical reasoning skills, join this course taught by internationally acclaimed faculty. Online pre-learning assignments and live lectures will provide a comprehensive foundation of core ultrasound knowledge. Utilizing a small-group, hands-on format, attendees will practice ultrasound scanning on live models to support the development of bedside image acquisition skills.

Learning Objectives
Point-of-Care Ultrasound: Foundational Skills for Internal Medicine Physicians Learning Objectives:
- Identify indications and rationale for performing the following examinations: pulmonary ultrasound, focused cardiac ultrasound, kidney and bladder ultrasound, evaluation of abdomen for free fluid, and evaluation of lower extremity for deep venous thrombosis.
- Perform the ultrasound exams listed above.
- Interpret normal and abnormal images for the applications listed above.
- Interpret POCUS findings in clinical case scenarios.
- Describe the principles of ultrasound operation, artifacts, and image optimization.

David Tierney, MD FACP is an Internist at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he has practiced since 2003. He is the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director and clinically works as a hospitalist and proceduralist. He is the founder and director of the Internal Medicine Bedside Ultrasound program (known as IMBUS) that has trained over 200 inpatient and outpatient internal medicine residents/faculty since its inception in 2010. He is also the founder and director of the Internal Medicine bedside procedure team and the Abbott Northwestern Center for Clinical Simulation (both established in 2006).

Prerequisite Requirement
In order to maximize hands-on instruction and opportunities for developing essential POCUS skills, participants in this course will be required to complete ACP's POCUS Online Learning Modules #1-7.
Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be received in writing by September 30, 2024 to obtain a full refund. An administrative fee of $100 will be deducted if the request is received from October 1 to October 21, 2024. After October 21, no refunds will be processed. Individuals who fail to attend the course (no-shows) will not be entitled to any refund.
