Governor's Message

Dear Colleagues,

I hope your summer has been going well. I am honored and excited to serve as your Governor. Since officially beginning my tenure in April, it has been a busy and productive few months.

At the ACP's annual meeting, which was held in Boston, I was honored to participate at the Convocation Ceremony to celebrate the new Fellows & Masters. Our Chapter held a well-attended reception where I had the chance to meet a few of you. Please mark the next Internal Medicine Meeting on your calendars: April 3-5, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In May, I joined Drs. Alpesh Amin, Richard Frankenstein, Dan Kim, and Andrew Hwang to hold a mentorship dinner hosted by our DEI committee. This event was for medical students at UCI who are interested in careers in internal medicine. A similar event will be held in September for medical students at UC Riverside.

Also in May, Dr. Michael Ulrich and I led our Chapter's delegation at the Leadership Day on Capitol Hill. 430 ACP members came from all 50 states to meet with members of Congress to advocate on behalf of internal medicine physician colleagues and our patients. This year, we focused our efforts to seek support on 3 pieces of legislation:

The Safe Step Act Helps decrease administrative burden on physicians and helps patients receive more effective care.

The Resident Physician Shortage Act Addresses physician workforce shortage issues by creating 2,000 new residency positions each year for the next seven years.

The Physician Fee Schedule Update and Improvements Act Asks to raise the threshold for implementing budget-neutral payment cuts to physicians and link this threshold to inflation to help mitigate cuts physicians face.

ACP's impact was significant, marked by over 300 meetings with members of Congress during Leadership Day. ACP's advocacy grassroots efforts also happen year-round. To receive updates on key policy issues and learn ways you can help, please join the Advocates for Internal Medicine Network now.

Our planning committee is making the final preparations for our Regional Scientific Meeting, scheduled for October 5th, 2024. This is a collaborative effort with the two other Southern California ACP Chapters (California Southern I and California Southern III). Registration is now .

Please contact our Executive Director, Teresa Roth at ACPSoCal2@gmail.com, for any questions or if you'd like more information on how to get involved with our Chapter. Thank you for your support!

Warm regards,

Rejan McCaskill, MD FACP
