Internal Medicine Physicians Applaud Eli Lilly’s Insulin Price Cap

Statement attributable to:

President, ACP

WASHINGTON March 2, 2023 – The Â鶹ֱ²¥app (ACP) is extremely encouraged by yesterday’s announcement from Eli Lilly that they are going to be limiting the cost of their insulin for patients. Too often our patients struggle to afford the medications they need to live, including insulin. A medication can only be as effective as a patient’s ability to obtain it. Ensuring that those who need it can afford their insulin enough to take their medication as directed will help my patients lead healthier lives. ACP has long for the need to address escalating prescription drug prices and is thankful to the Biden administration and Congress for starting an important discussion about the cost of this critical medication.  We call on other manufacturers to follow suit and for Congress to cap insulin cost for patients with commercial insurance similar to the legislation they passed for the Medicare population.
